Substitution

So I’ve lost a lot of weight recently. Intentionally. I did a variety of things and will talk about some of them here, but one of the things I did a lot of was substituting one better food for another. Not gonna call any food good or bad — okay, Death Cap Mushrooms are bad — but some are more filling for fewer calories.

First of all, never been a fan of oatmeal since I was a kid. But I’ve learned to like it more, particularly by not adding sugar to it.

I add frozen berries. First of all, they’re convenient because you can keep more of them around longer; secondly, they’re a helluva lot cheaper than fresh berries; thirdly, they add a sweet kick to the oatmeal that some get by adding brown sugar.

Oatmeal with Frozen Berries

That simple but very filling bowl of oatmeal with some frozen berries in it is only 215 calories.

You could also use stevia. If you’ve never had it, try it out. I think it tastes a lot better than the fake sweeteners out there. And consider growing it. Grows like a weed in my garden.
