Martini (Clarification)

Just to clear things up about my post yesterday….

Martini (mär-ˈtē-nē) – noun – a cocktail made of gin and dry vermouth

– Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Period.

If it’s served in a cocktail glass, that doesn’t make it a Martini. That makes it a drink served in a cocktail glass. So there’s no such thing as a Choco-Mango Martini made with whatever the fuck would go into that…unless it’s mainly gin and then whatever the fuck would go into that to make it taste like chocolate and mango. And then you’ve got to wonder why bother.

Martini
Martini

Martini = gin.

Everyone clear on that?

Good.

A Note About Moderation

A friend of mine’s dad back in the 1950s heard that Martinis were an acquired taste. Since they were all the rage he decide he should try to acquire that taste and went out one night to do so.

It should be noted that one shouldn’t try to “acquire the taste” in one sitting. He acquired many things that night — nausea, vomiting, an awful headache the next morning — but not a taste for Martinis.
