Farmer Freed
My lovely daughter goes to UC Santa Cruz. For Christmas 2018 she got me some salt from a local vendor down there, Farmer Freed.
She got me the Spice It Up blend and I have to say it’s great. I use it in eggs, marinades, on salads, and in recipes that call for salt and I want to pump up a notch. I’ve even used it in baking as a topping for pretzels and in the dough for breadsticks.
For Christmas 2019 I ordered a couple more to give as gifts. I ordered the Everyday Herb Salt — which is a blend right out of a Simon & Garfunkel song: parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. And also got a couple of jars of the Sababa Salt.
The herbs are all certified organic if you’re into that kind of thing.
The prices are reasonable as was the shipping cost. I got an [unneeded] apology later the same day I ordered that the items hadn’t shipped yet but they shipped the next day, I guess. Got here quick and everything arrived well packaged — important as they’re in glass jars. The package also included a nice personal note from Farmer Emily Jane Freed, thanking me for my purchase.
And just writing this I noticed there are a couple other blends that I haven’t tried yet — a Vanilla Bean Baker’s Salt, a Dilly Goat Blend, and a Pucker Up Citrus Salt, which includes Meyer Lemon Zest. May have to check these out, either by mail or pick up the next time I’m in Santa Cruz.
Great stuff, great small vendor, nice person. Or people, I’m assuming.
