Crap Loaf Pans
We needed some new 9×5 / 1.25-pound loaf pans. (Loaf Pan Sizes) The old “non stick” ones we had were rusting, which wasn’t terribly appealing. Probably not healthy, either.
I looked for stainless steel ones but couldn’t find any. Well, that’s not entirely true: I found some but they were only like 2″ tall which wasn’t gonna work very well for a loaf of bread. Pound cake or banana bread or something, but not a rising loaf. (Most loaf pans are 2.75″ tall or taller.) A typical loaf in something that small would be up and over the sides in no time. Pass.
Against my better judgment, I ordered a couple of silicone bread pans. I’d tried them years ago and they cleaned up nicely but they had structural integrity issues and would bend out in the middle and give you bread a weird shape and bake. Didn’t like that. These claimed that they wouldn’t do that:
Those uprights on the side — they claimed — added integrity and the pans wouldn’t bend when a loaf was in them and rising. This is a Walfos brand of silicone loaf pan.
Care to guess how that worked out?
Yah, well, they were wrong:
So, these are junk. Going back. Don’t buy silicone loaf pans unless you don’t care that your loaves look pregnant.
For the record, the silicone muffin pans are okay, but they’re a bit of a pain to move because they’re soft. So getting those muffins from the counter into the oven is also a pain.
